ROSE SOCIETIES
Formed in 1975 by Miriam Wilkins, this is a fellowship of those who care about the Old Garden Roses, Species Roses, Old or Unusual Roses, especially those roses introduced into commerce prior to the year 1867. They host the famed "Celebration of Old Roses" each year in May, in El Cerrito, California. $15.00 dues include a charming Quarterly Rose Letter and the south-west chapters receive two issues yearly of Miriam's Old Roser's Digest.
A national organization with over 20,000 members dedicated to the enjoyment, enhancement and promotion of America's floral emblem. Typing a rose name into the search box instantly rewards you with information and not one but numerous photos of the rose your're curious about. This is an invaluable tool for garden design research.
Scintillating rose forums discuss everything rosy you can think of and more. The Antique Roses Forum is my favorite, especially when contributors send in garden photos.

This website is a world encyclopedia of rose pictures and information based on the published (and unpublished) works of authors Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix, with a large contribution from Bill Grant. The site features over 5,800 pictures of roses!
While visiting England in 2001, we found

Published annually since 1980, the Combined Rose List is the one international reference for rose sources. It contains essential information about rose varieties and mail order nurseries in the USA, Canada, and many overseas countries. Information in this 264-page softcover book is provided for more than 14,500 different roses and more than 300 mail order nurseries.
